Jim Coulthart, a local amateur military aviation historian, will present his collection of WW2 anecdotes, incidents, accidents with ties to Central New York on Friday September 20 at 6:00pm.
Airplane Tales 3 tells the stories of Benancye 2nd the bomber with the steel brain, “Old Hellcat”, one of the first B-26 Marauders with 50 missions to her credit. Also included are the stories of John Shott a POW, “The Reluctant Gremlin” a flying postcard, “Flak Bait” a bomber with 200+ missions to her credit, and some WW2 aircraft right in our own back yard. This presentation took several months to conduct and incorporated a range of sources to include many original photographs from the Rome Army Airfield, family accountings, newspaper clippings, online resources, and official reports.
