The Old Forge Library will kick off its summer season with the Fourth Annual Community Pride Celebration on Thursday, June 25, from 4 to 7 pm on the library lawn at 220 Crosby Boulevard. The free, family-friendly event welcomes residents and visitors alike for an evening of music, food, creativity, and community connection.
The celebration will feature a picnic-style menu with a build-your-own mac and cheese bar, a loaded baked potato bar, sweet treats, and plenty of cake. Music throughout the evening will be provided by DJ Jerry Dee and the Deeplex mobile sound system, creating an upbeat atmosphere for dancing, jamming out and gathering with friends and neighbors.
Guests of all ages will also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on craft activities, including designing custom pride tote bags and bracelets. Organizers say the event is designed to be joyful, welcoming, and accessible to everyone in the community.
Several local artists, nonprofits, advocacy groups, and community organizations will be set up on the lawn with information tables, giveaways, handmade goods, and resources celebrating inclusion and connection throughout the Adirondack region.
Held during Pride Month, the event is part of a nationwide tradition honoring LGBTQ+ communities and promoting dignity, equality, kindness, and visibility for all people. Library staff says the annual celebration continues to grow each year as more community members come together in a positive and supportive environment.
Organizers describe the evening as an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, share a meal, connect with neighbors, and celebrate the spirit of community while ensuring every person feels welcomed and valued. Generous Funding for this event has been provided by the Equity Grant Round, a collaborative effort of the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties and UpMobility Foundation to address systemic racism and socioeconomic inequity.
The celebration is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the evening on the library lawn.
