For those looking for a more involved and immersive experience, Fridays from July 3 through September 4 will feature “Freestyle Fridays.” Running from 11 a.m. to 1 pm, these longer sessions offer a relaxed, open-studio atmosphere with multi-step themed stations and deeper self-guided activities. Participants can stop in anytime during the window to explore the day's projects, which include:
July 3 & September 4: 250th Community Banner Squares
July 10: Wooden Birds and Birdhouses
July 17: Fairy Houses and Doors
July 24: Christmas in July Ornaments
July 31: Papermaking and Flower Pressing
August 7: Wooden Fish
August 14: Woodland Wonders
August 21: Hats, Shirts, and Bags
August 28: Rubber Band Looms and Yarn Looms
The banner workshops held during both Tuesday and Friday sessions throughout the summer will contribute to a collaborative community display celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Participants will help design decorative fabric squares that will later be assembled into a large, shared art piece honoring community heritage, creativity, and American traditions.
The library’s summer craft programming is intended to provide accessible, screen-free experiences for everyone. Please note that children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult, and some of the more involved Friday projects may include the supervised use of crafting tools such as hot glue guns or irons. While walk-ins are welcome as materials allow, registration is appreciated to assist staff with supply planning. For more information, to register, or to learn about other year-round resources, visit the Old Forge Library at 220 Crosby Blvd., call 315-369-6008, or email oldforge@midyork.org.
